A man and a woman remain in police custody Sunday after an early morning stabbing in Prospect and the subsequent recovery of a firearm.
The man, aged 28, and a woman, aged 20, both of George Town, were involved in the altercation at a residence in Prospect, police said.
The incident happened shortly after 12:30am.
A police statement said officers responded to a report of a stabbing.
Police said it was reported that three persons – two men and a woman – all known to each other, were involved in an altercation at a residence on Domino Street. The woman brandished a firearm at one of the men, who grabbed it from her and was made to leave, according to an RCIPS statement.
As he did so, he was stabbed by the second man, police said.
The injured man is said to have left the residence and sought help.
He was assisted by the occupants of a nearby residence on Satinwood Street, where he remained until police arrived.
When officers of the Firearms Response Unit reached the scene, they recovered the firearm and one round of ammunition.
Emergency services transported the injured man to Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment for his wound. He was subsequently released.
The George Town man and woman turned themselves into police, and were both arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and wounding.
“The RCIPS would like to express appreciation to the persons who assisted the wounded man, one of whom is a juvenile who first answered the man’s calls for help,” the statement said.
