Dual concerts, brunches planned for long weekend

The weather reports may call for rain, but that’s not dampening the spirits of some venues that have big plans for this weekend.

From a Jamaican headliner to a legendary band tribute act, food festival and Platinum Jubilee brunches, there is much to keep islanders occupied, along with the official celebratory events.

Protoje live in concert

Friday, 3 June
Sandbar, George Town @ 3pm
Jamaican reggae singer/songwriter Protoje headlines a day of entertainment, food and drink in downtown George Town, next to the Sandbar Daiquiri Bar & Grill.

The Street Food Festival starts from 3pm, with music throughout the day from supporting artists Yohann Fitzgerald, Rico Rolando, Denys Carbo, Erica Assai, Jimmeh the Boss and Jazz in Trance.

Advance tickets are $25 for children 12-and-under; $40 for general admission with a welcome drink; and $200 for VIP which includes perks aplenty, such as a VIP lounge and reserved parking area. Buy online at EventPro.

Foster’s Summer Fair: Absolute Queen

Saturday, 4 June
Sandbar, George Town @ 1pm
What could be more fitting a band for the Platinum Jubilee weekend than Queen? Absolute Queen, a top tribute act out of the US, will be taking to the stage on Saturday night, but not before opening bands The Neverines, Sugardaddi and Tacatac feat. Lion Fish have whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

This event is free for the public, and there will be activities all day from 1pm until the stage comes alive at 8pm. However, those looking for a VIP experience can book tickets at $150 each online at EventPro.

Jubilee Streetfood Celebration

Abacus @ 11am-4pm
Abacus is serving up classic nibbles and tipples to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne. Bangers and mash, fish and chips, and open roast beef sandwiches are just a few of the familiar items on the menu, which can be washed down with a Royal Pimm’s cocktail, a refreshing gin concoction, or why not some Bollinger Champagne?

Ave Queen’s Jubilee Brunch

Sunday, 5 June
Ave, Kimpton Seafire @ noon-3pm
Ave Restaurant in the Kimpton Seafire is offering up a brunch fit for a queen. Traditional dishes are promised, such as bubble and squeak, shepherd’s pie, and sticky toffee pudding.
