Grace Gealey and her husband Trai Byers, whom she met when they co-starred on the hit TV series ‘Empire’, are expecting their first child.
Gealey went public with the news on Friday, 14 Oct. in an Instagram post celebrating Byers’ debut on Broadway. He is performing in the revival of August Wilson’s ‘The Piano Lesson’ at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington and Danielle Brooks.
The post featured a picture of Gealey and Byers together at the opening night of the play, with Gealey cradling her baby bump. She simply said, “Words absolutely fail when it comes to describing how deeply and overwhelmingly proud we are of you, @traibyers.”
Beyond the post, there has been no further information publicised about the pregnancy. The Cayman Compass reached out to Gealey’s executive assistant for comment, but was told, “All of the information that the Byers’ wish to share regarding their personal lives is currently in the media sphere.”
Gealey was born in the US to an American father and Caymanian mother, but grew up in the Cayman Islands from the age of 2 to 18, before leaving to attend university stateside.
She is a bestselling children’s book author and award-winning actress, known for ‘Empire’, ‘The Gifted’ and ‘Harlem’. She came home last year to film ‘The Retirement Plan’ with Nicolas Cage, Jackie Earle Haley, Ron Perlman, Ernie Hudson, Lynn Whitfield and Ashley Greene.
