Swimmers will have to wait a little longer for the 34th annual CUC Open Water Sea Swim, after organisers announced that the event has been postponed to 28 Jan.
The event, which features an 800 metre and 400m swim along Governors Beach, was initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, 14 Jan. but was postponed following the advice of the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
With the cold front over the weekend that has lasted into this week, the NWS had noted the presence of northwesterly winds on the day of the swim, causing rough seas with 4-6-foot waves affecting the northern and western coasts.
“[The event is] rescheduled to Saturday, 28 Jan., due to weather,” the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association wrote on their Facebook page based on the NWS forecast.
The race will begin and end at Governors Beach, with registration taking place from 3-3:45pm on site, and the swim starting at 4pm.
