Will Sellars, of Seven Mile Swimmers, took first place at the annual 800-metre CUC Sea Swim, besting the 78 other swimmers taking part.
In the open water event, held along Seven Mile Beach on Saturday, 15 Jan., Sellars clocked in at 10 minutes, 2 seconds, to better his time set at last year’s swim.
“I obviously wanted to come first,” Sellars told the Cayman Compass. “When we were lining up to start, I was just going to go. I wanted to lead from the front the whole way and stay in control of the race, and it all worked out.”
Behind Sellars in second place was Jordan Lisle, clocking 10:29:06, followed in third place by Dominic Hilton, who finished 10:35:12. Lola Haworth took first female place, and fifth overall, in a time of 10:48:42.
When asked if he was worried about his competition catching up, Sellars responded, “I got away from the pack … “There were a little bit of moments when I thought I saw someone but that was just my imagination.”

In addition to the 79 swimmers who competed in the 800-metre sea swim, younger participants took part in a 400-metre fun race, where all finishers received ribbons, according to the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association.
