A case of alleged blackmail against Cayman Marl Road’s Sandra Hill has been transferred to the Grand Court.
In addition to the charge of blackmail, Hill faces a single count of attempting to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice.
“These charges are indictable-only offences which means they must be transmitted to the Grand Court,” said Magistrate Kirsty-Ann Gunn, who presided over the hearing held Tuesday, 28 March.
While the next court date was being decided, Amelia Fosuhene, Hill’s attorney, raised concerns over a “lack of proper disclosure”.
“In the time that I have stood on my feet I have read the entirety of a very, very, very short statement by the complainant,” said Fosuhene.
Fosuhene warned that if more disclosure was not forthcoming, she would make a dismissal application during the next hearing.
“If the prosecution are going to serve evidence, then they need to do so properly, and this disclosure is woefully inadequate,” said Fosuhene.
Hill has been released on bail and is expected to return to Grand Court on Friday, 14 April.
The charges stem from an allegation that Hill attempted to blackmail Felder during a defamation lawsuit, which began in 2019.
Felder first sued Hill in January 2020, at which time he claimed “…several defamatory articles were published by the Defendant about the plaintiff and attacking his character and his business practices.”
Ultimately, Felder was ordered to pay Hill’s legal expenses of US$50,000.
