John Felder ordered to pay Sandra Hill’s US$50,000 legal bill

A defamation lawsuit against Cayman Marl Road administrator Sandra Teresa Hill, has been dismissed by the Grand Court and businessman John Felder, who initiated the lawsuit, has been ordered to pay Hill’s legal fees.

In a court document confirming the agreement between both parties, dated 20 April, which was provided to the Cayman Compass by Hill, Justice Robin McMillan ordered: “The Plaintiff (Felder) pay the Defendant’s costs (Hill) of the proceedings in the total sum of US$50,000 in full and final settlement of all costs incurred in these proceedings”.

McMillan’s ruling comes a little more than five months after he initially set aside the earlier judgment against Hill, which would have required her to pay Felder $US105,000 in damages for alleged defamation.

“I am very pleased at the outcome of this matter – which has caused an immense degree of stress for the past almost 3 years,” Hill told the Compass in a statement.

The legal battle was initiated by Felder in Dec. 2019 and stems from a series of posts and articles written and published on Hill’s CMR website and associated social media platforms. Felder’s lawsuit was met with several opposing applications from Hill.

Hill thanked her legal team from Broadhurst and told the Compass “The truth ultimately prevailed and that feels very good”.

The Compass reached out to Felder seeking a comment on the rulings, no reply was received by publication time.
