A special series featuring Cayman Islands underwater photographer Jason Washington and freediver Coral Tomascik’s work with the Inter Miami football team has premiered on the club’s Apple TV channel.
Washington, who shared the first episode of the series to his social media, expressed excitement at being able to spread the word about caring for the ocean through the series.
“That’s a giant honour for us. Obviously, it helps spread the word on what it is that we’re trying to accomplish and the more eyes the better… on this type of work. Those that don’t dive, don’t understand the plight of our world’s oceans so it’s important to us to be able to get in front of as many eyeballs as we possibly can,” he told the Cayman Compass Monday in a telephone interview.

The series, entitled ‘Miami Moments’, featured Washington’s iconic photo shoot with Tomascik in Bimini, Bahamas, where he captured her underwater with a hammerhead shark.
The shoot was part of a campaign earlier this year with the Major League Soccer team to launch its jersey, supplied by Adidas, from the Primeblue collection. It was also used to spotlight the impact of plastics on the world’s oceans.
This marked the third time the duo have partnered with the team to showcase the jersey, which is made from recycled plastics reclaimed from the ocean.
They also did shoots in Cayman of Tomascik with a soccer ball at the Kittiwake wreck off West Bay and as well as with stingrays in the North Sound.
Washington said as it was his idea to do the hammerhead shoot for the latest campaign, “the pressure” was on him to make it happen.
It was during that shoot, which took six days to get the photo with the shark, that the first episode of the series was filmed.
“It was an amazing experience, a very challenging experience. But we’re blessed to be able to help spread the word of the delicate nature surrounding our marine conservation efforts in our marine environments,” he said.

Inter Miami, he said, included all three shoots they have done in the series, episodes for which will be released on the club’s free Apple TV channel.
He said a lot of behind-the-scenes footage was also captured for each of the jersey campaigns and the team will also be posting them on the channel.
Washington said he was honoured to be able to share local stories of conservation here.
“It’s my home and I am very proud of this island and its people and its conservation efforts. To be able to highlight some of the things that are going on here in the Cayman Islands means a ton to me and Coral. It’s our backyard and this is where we dive mostly,” he said.
