Cayman’s Indian community gathered together on Saturday, 12 Aug., to celebrate their home country’s independence with song, dance, music and food.
The joyful event was held at Constitution Hall in George Town and included children’s performances, the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’, group dances and more.
It finished with a feast of national food.
All profits from the ticket sales will be donated to an orphanage in India.
In her closing speech, event organiser Shilpa Tagalpallewar said she was “so happy to see so many smiling faces”.
“It makes my heart beat with pride to see the colours of Independence Day spreading happiness around. May the glory of Independence Day be with you ever.”
She thanked the attendees for coming and the organising team for making it so successful.
“I am glad to be part of this event, where we all got an opportunity to show our patriotism towards our beloved country and remember our roots,” Tagalpallewar said.
“We had witnessed our kids’ amazing performances, fabulous singing by our singers.
“This is the symbol of our dedication and commitment of our community towards any event.”
Tagalpallewar added that similar events should be regularly planned and conducted “so that the flow and impact of interactions don’t lose their relevance”.
“These events will enable us to strengthen the bond that exists between each one of us,” she told those gathered.
India Independence Day is officially celebrated each year on 15 Aug. It commemorates India’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1947.
