Cayman mother-of-three Jasmine McKenzie has succumbed to the injuries she sustained in a New York apartment fire last week.

Larry Thompson, development manager at A. L. Thompson’s, where McKenzie had worked since 2004, confirmed that McKenzie, 44, passed away at a New York hospital.

“Unfortunately, we received the sad news from Jasmine’s family that she passed away yesterday [Wednesday] afternoon. This has been an extremely tough few months for our family and staff as we grieve the passing of multiple staff members,” Thompson told the Cayman Compass Thursday via email.

Thompson said the staff at the George Town store was trying to come to terms with the loss.

“Jasmine was a beacon of light for our staff and customers. Her smile was infectious, she was always happy, always smiling, and will be missed beyond words. Please continue to keep Jasmine’s family, friends, and work family in your thoughts and prayers,” he added.
