Across Cayman throughout November, upper lip hair was combed, curled and coiffed to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
It was all part of the annual Movember Cayman Islands event, which sees men grow their finest moustaches and take part in a calendar of fundraising activities for a chosen charity.
“We’re on course for raising $75,000 this year,” Movember Cayman Islands chair Dave O’Driscoll told the Compass, adding that the money will go to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

There were lots of fun events across the islands in November which helped to contribute towards the total amount raised.
The month began with a ‘Movember Shave-Off’ at Door No. 4 on 1 Nov. and tickets went on sale for the $20,000 raffle.
An open championship golf day was held at North Sound Gold Club on 10 Nov. and a Movember information night took place at the Lions Centre on 16 Nov.

“The Movember info night was a big success, with over 100 men receiving free prostate-specific antigen screenings, as well as glucose and cholesterol checks,” O’Driscoll said.
On 18 Nov., teams took part in the ‘Invitational Fitness Challenge’ at Cricket Square, and a family fun run started and finished at The Grove on West Bay Road.

A ‘Tickle Your Pickleballs’ tournament saw teams compete in the first ever pickleball mega-tournament at Pickleball Cayman on Smith Road.
The month ended with a closing ceremony at The Hive on Friday, 1 Dec. when moustache growers submitted their sponsorship and competed for the 2023 Man of Movember.
“The 50/50 raffle is still going,” O’Driscoll said, “with our target of selling 1,000 tickets within reach. The winner could take home $20,000.”
