Prison officer bailed on drug charges

A prison officer accused of smuggling drugs into jail was bailed after appearing in court Friday afternoon on criminal charges, including supplying ganja.

Senior prison officer Derron Watson was granted bail on Friday afternoon when he appeared in court pending a Grand Court appearance on Friday, 15 March.

The Prison Officer was formally charged with Misconduct in a Public Office and Supplying Drugs (Ganja) after he was arrested during the joint operation on Wednesday at His Majesty’s Prison Northward.

A brief joint press release from the RCIPS, Cayman Islands Prison Service and the Department of Public Safety Communications last week alleged the officer was observed smuggling contraband into Northward on Wednesday, 28 Feb.
