Catwalk for Cancer raises $30,000

The Paseo at Camana Bay came alive with fashion, colour and community spirit as the Cayman Islands Cancer Society hosted its fourth annual Catwalk for Cancer fundraiser which pulled in a record $30,000 for the non-profit.

One stylish step at a time, on Thursday, 7 March, kids, teens, men, women, cancer patients or survivors, as well as former Miss Universe Cayman Islands, strutted down the runway showcasing local spring fashion trends, resort wear and swimwear by clothing boutiques Sand Angels and Ame.

The event was once again organised in partnership with Sand Angels, Amé, and Health City Cayman Islands.

At the event, Rebekah Brooks, chair of the Cancer Society board, encouraged attendees not to forget that “Each step taken on this catwalk symbolises a step forward in our shared mission to eradicate this devastating disease.”

Brooks said the evening was not merely about fashion, but also “about fostering a community of compassion and support for those affected by cancer. It’s about honouring the strength and resilience of individuals facing unimaginable challenges. It’s about coming together to ignite hope and inspire change.”

She added, “Together, we stand in our commitment to provide financial aid, screening tests, and essential support services.”

‘Raise the Roof’

Dave O’Driscoll, the society’s operations manager, also spoke at the event, noting the show was organised not just to highlight the top-tier fashion industry in Cayman, but also to raise money for the Cancer Society.

“This year is important for many reasons, but particularly as this event is part of our ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign where we are expanding our offices to accommodate wellness and education rooms,” he said.

O’Driscoll also noted the involvement of Health City Cayman Islands in the project.

“They are a true legacy sponsor, and a genuine friend of the Cancer Society,” he said.

The evening also included entertainment by local singer, Madam Nirosa, a raffle prize drawing, and displays of local arts and crafts.
