The Department of Environmental Health bulk waste team will be rolling into Bodden Town on Monday to commence collections in the community.

Residents are being encouraged to get their waste ready for pick-up.

The collections, now entering their third week, kick off on the Discovery Day holiday, and the DEH is urging residents to prepare, separate and get their items ready for collection.

“Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected as there will not be any extension of the schedule,” the DEH warned in a media advisory Friday.

Bulk waste refers to large items such as old furniture, tyres and metal items that are not collected as part of the DEH’s weekly residential pick-up services, it reminded.

The Department also advised George Town residents that Saturday 18 May is the last day for the collection in their area.

“No additional bulk waste must be placed as it will be considered littering or illegal dumping,” the DEH added.

Metal and vegetative waste must be separated from other bulk waste items, it said.

“Construction and demolition debris, hazardous material, electronics, and tyres will not be collected during the bulk waste removal activity. Alternative arrangements must be made to transport these materials to the George Town Landfill or the landfill drop-off facility at the gate which remains accessible to the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day,” the DEH has said.

Solid Waste Management crews are deployed from Monday to Saturday.
