The Harneys Gaelic Football League ended on Sunday, 12 May, with Cavan Gaels and Bredagh claiming the men’s and women’s league titles, respectively.

Cavan Gaels faced off against Na Fianna in the finals at the Cayman International School field.

For the Gaels, they only needed a point to win the league, but a victory for Fianna would have meant a jump from fourth to snatch the trophy.

The first half was a competitive affair as Fianna maintained a stern defence but the Gaels took advantage of Fianna being a few key players down, edging them 0-02 to 0-01 to end the first half in the lead.

Again, the lack of top players on Fianna proved to play a factor in the second half, only this time the Gaels maintained a relentless attack, outmatching their opposition to eventually win the league trophy by 0-11 to 0-02.

Each of the 12 male teams has played eight games since the start of the league in February.

The women’s final featured eventual champions Bredagh dominating Oliver Plunketts in a one-sided affair – winning the league 4-8 to 1-7.

The Gaelic football season will continue Friday, 24 May, with the Harneys Championship running until finals day on Saturday, 22 June.
