The Cayman Islands Gaelic Football Harneys season concluded on Sunday, 23 June with two championship finals taking place in front of hundreds of spectators at the CIS pitch.
“The crowd down here today goes to show just how popular the Harneys Gaelic Football League has become,” Cathal McGrath, chairman of the Gaelic club told the Compass. “With a record 21 teams taking part this season, the … [club] continue to grow year on year.”
In the ladies’ championship final, St. Fechin, who finished as the runners-up in the league, faced off against Buffers’ Alley. Fechin secured the win after going 3-7 against Alley 2-1.
The men’s championship final closed the show with Western Gaels, captained by Conor Barry, taking on Éire Óg in an engrossing match.
The final featured key plays from Western Gaels’ teammates Kevin O’Loughlin and Aidan Heffernan, which ultimately helped their team to victory with a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-6 to lift the trophy.

McGrath said the club will now turn their focus to the upcoming USGAA Finals, scheduled to take place in San Francisco this August.
“The Club will … send a record five teams to represent … where we will hope to bring silverware back to Cayman to continue the trend of previous years,” McGrath ended.
