Cayman Art Week Central Art in the City will be back on Friday May 24 as part of this year’s fourth annual Cayman Art Week festivities, the George Town Revitalisation Initiative has announced.
The initiative stated in a release on Friday that the popular CAW Central Art in the City feature will begin with an ‘Art in the City’ happy hour from 5pm to 7pm on Cardinall Avenue on Friday as part of the Cayman Art Week festivities which run from May 22-26.
The Cayman Art Week Central Art in the City event is co-produced and managed by the Cayman Art Week Committee and the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development.
Complimentary guided tours of top galleries and art spaces, including Ngara Galleries, Guy Harvey Gallery, Claire at the Beach, and others will also be hosted on the evening on 24 May from 6pm to 10pm.
It will feature fine art, local music and complimentary refreshments.
Pop-up galleries and art installations will be set up along Cardinall Avenue.
Planning Minister Johany ‘Jay’ Ebanks, speaking on the upcoming event, said Cayman Art Week and Art in the City are key components of government’s vision to celebrate and expand the cultural richness of the Cayman Islands.
“These events not only showcase the diverse talents of our local artists but also create vital connections within our community and with visitors from around the world. We are proud to support this vibrant celebration of creativity, which contributes significantly to our islands’ cultural and economic vitality,” he said.
This year’s Cayman Art Week is set to be the biggest yet, featuring 15 galleries, 11 studios, and 14 pop-up exhibitions spanning all three Cayman Islands.
Cayman Art Week showcases the broad spectrum of creative venues and talented artists across the islands, from painting and pottery to installations and interventions.
With all venues free and open to the public, and artists present at many of the week’s events, Cayman Art Week offers a unique opportunity for the public to engage directly with the vibrant arts community.
“This event underscores the fruitful collaboration between the George Town Revitalisation Initiative and the Cayman Islands’ art community, reinforcing our commitment to enriching the cultural landscape and providing dynamic experiences for both residents and visitors,” the statement said.
CAW Lead Partners are Susan A. Olde, OBE, George Town Revitalisation Initiative, the National Gallery and Ministry of Tourism and Ports.
