A $3.5 million extension to Kirk Home Centre retail and wholesale store has been given the green light by the Central Planning Authority.
The site on Eastern Avenue was granted planning permission for a 26,072-square-foot retail addition to the existing 54,480 square feet of retail and storage space, along with an extra 4,169 square feet of storage space.

Permission was also granted for an extra 208 parking spaces, of which 79 spaces will be location on two parcels of land across Bodden Road. The planning authority also approved three new building signs, each not to exceed 32 square feet.
There were no objections to the plan which is in a General Commercial planning zone and approval was given by the planning authority subject to meeting standard planning regulations.
Kirk Home Centre is a family-owned business that provides a range of home, hardware, and building supplies including kitchen, bathroom and outdoor products.

I note that the new building signs needed planning approval. This brings me to query the regulations governing electronic advertising screens, deliberately placed within feet of roads carrying heavy traffic. The latest addition is one on N Church St which has the refinement of being situated on a purpose built trailer allowing it to be placed anywhere. In the U.K. advertising signs are banned in close proximity to roads for the obvious reason they distract drivers. How is it these are allowed in Cayman?.
