A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a weekend robbery at a convenience store.

The Mary Street Convenience Shop was robbed in the early hours of Sunday, March 1.

Police said enquiries continued and that the man remained in custody.

Officers earlier said that a masked man entered the shop at about 4am, brandished a gun and demanded cash.

They added the man escaped with money and fled on foot in the direction of Shedden Road.

Police said there were no shots were fired and no one was injured as a result of the incident. Police have appealed for witnesses.

The robbery of the Subway store at Anderson Square on Shedden Road in central George Town happened less than 24 hours earlier when a masked man armed with a gun targeted the restaurant at about 5:45am.

He escaped with cash and headed in the direction of Eastern Avenue. No one was injured.

Same store targeted again

The Mary Street Convenience Shop was also robbed almost exactly a year ago.

A machete-wielding man went into the shop and demanded cash from the assistant on duty.

The robber fled on foot with cash and other items. No one was injured.

The incident happened at about 7pm on 5 March last year.
