The Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association has named the 40-athlete delegation set to compete at the 2026 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships in Martinique.
Scheduled to take place on 3-8 April, this year’s Cayman delegation comprises of athletes across three disciplines: swimming, artistic swimming and open water.
The roster was finalised based on the athletes’ success in meeting the required qualifying standards at CIASA-sanctioned competitions, such as the recent National Championships.
This selection comes on the heels of a successful 2025 CARIFTA campaign in which Cayman earned 34 total medals, including 14 gold, 11 silver, nine bronze, as well as eight CIASA records.
“In recent years, Cayman’s athletes have consistently performed above expectations relative to the nation’s size, earning podium finishes in the pool, strong placements in open water, and continued progress in artistic swimming,” CIASA said.
Technical director of CIASA, Jacky Pellerin, noted, “Since COVID, we have been striving to continue developing a strong, unified team, encouraging young people to flourish and older members to qualify for international events. But above all, we want them to maintain their love of swimming throughout their lives.
“Every length is a victory, every effort brings our swimmers closer to their best times,” she added. “Together, they will swim beyond their limits. We are excited to see them represent Cayman with pride and determination.”
The Cayman squad is set to depart for the championships on 2 April.
