Seven people have been arrested after a series of police operations in George Town and West Bay over the weekend led to the seizure of suspected drugs, drug paraphernalia and a suspected firearm.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said the investigation began shortly after 8pm on Friday, 10 July, when officers stopped a vehicle travelling through central George Town.
A search of the vehicle and its occupants resulted in the recovery of a quantity of suspected ganja. The occupants were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences and taken into custody.
As the investigation progressed, officers executed a search at a residence in Windsor Park. On arriving at the property, police arrested a man who was already wanted in connection with an assault investigation.
A search of the man’s residence uncovered a quantity of suspected cocaine, leading to a further arrest on suspicion of drug-related offences.
Police then carried out a more extensive search of the property, where they recovered additional quantities of suspected ganja, drug paraphernalia and a suspected firearm.
The following day, Saturday, 11 July, officers executed a separate search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a residence in West Bay.
During that search, police recovered another quantity of suspected ganja and arrested two people who were at the property on suspicion of drug-related offences.
All of the recovered items have been seized as evidence, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The RCIPS also sought to dispel what it described as inaccurate information circulating on social media about the investigation, confirming that Michael Gollab remains wanted by police. Anyone with information on Gollab’s whereabouts is asked to contact the George Town Police Station on 949-4222. Anonymous tips can also be provided through the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line on 949-7777 or via Cayman Crime Stoppers.
