New police commissioner to arrive in Cayman Thursday
Cayman’s new police commissioner, Derek Byrne, is scheduled to arrive on island Thursday evening to take up his post, the governor’s office confirmed this week. Mr. Byrne’s appointment to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service was announced in August after a recruitment process that short-listed three candidates for the top cop’s job.
36-year Irish police veteran tapped to head up RCIPS
Derek Patrick Byrne, a 36-year veteran of Ireland’s National Police Service, has been selected as the new commissioner of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Governor’s Office has announced. Mr. Byrne will join the RCIPS in November on a four-year contract.
