The family of Shemaiah Grant, who was killed in a collision in West Bay in 2021, and advocates in the United States have welcomed the passage of a law that can be used to force drivers whose reckless actions lead to the death of a parent to financially support the children left behind.

Motorists who cause death by illegal driving could now be made to pay costs for the upbringing of the deceased person’s children. 

The family of a father killed when his motorbike was struck by a car has launched a petition calling for a new law requiring individuals convicted of causing the death of another in a vehicle collision to take on the financial responsibility of raising the victim's child.

It’s been two years and two months since Shemaiah Grant was killed in a collision a couple of miles away from his West Bay home, after being struck from his motorcycle by Jordan Telford who was texting and driving at the time.

Jordan Telford has been sentenced to 4 years and five months years in prison for a late-night collision that claimed the life of 31-year-old Shemaiah Grant.

Prosecutors have called for a sentence of up to 10 years for Jordan Telford, who was the driver in a 2021 collision in West Bay that killed Shemaiah Grant.

Jordan Telford has pled guilty to causing an accident which claimed the life of Shemiah Grant in May 2021.

A West Bay man, 38, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving whilst impaired in connection with a fatal accident on Sunday that claimed the life of a 31-year-old motorcyclist, also of West Bay.
