Fallen officer remembered in candlelight

Members of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Department held a candle lighting ceremony at the George Town Police Station parking lot Saturday night in loving memory of a fallen comrade.

Officiating at the service for the late Police Constable Niven Dixon tragically killed in an automobile accident over a week ago was Pastor J. Kim Evans.

Many loved ones, Assistance Commissioner of Police Anthony Ennis, Detective Chief Superintendent, and Chief Inspector Courtney Myles and the congregation paid their respects to Mr. Dixon.

‘We mourn a fallen comrade who was committed to his family and his work,’ said Mr. Ennis. He also spoke of Mr. Dixon’s courage during Hurricane Ivan when he helped so many to find shelter. ‘He was a friend to many and always had a smiling face and will be greatly missed.’

After a moment of silence, those gathered sang the song How Great Thou Art.

The vote of thanks was given by Woman Inspector Norah Ebanks and the benediction was read by Woman Sergeant Christsandra Mitchell.
