Rotarians keeping it clean

In the spirit of helping the community, Rotarian volunteers were out in full force Sunday.

Twenty Rotary members from Rotary Sunrise, Rotary Central and the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman combined their efforts to clean up the Bodden Town area.

Volunteers removed fallen trees, scrap metal, bottles, pans, wood scraps and wires from the parking lot of the Bodden Town Public Library and surrounding areas.

The Rotarians have been working most weekends since the hurricane at various locations throughout Cayman. Great progress is being made, said Rotarian Geoff Mathews.

He said the clubs had jointly established an Ivan recovery fund, and have already distributed more than CI$100,000.

Chris Bowring, president of Rotary Sunrise; John Elliot, president of Rotary Central; and Ray Whittaker, president of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, meet every Monday to decide where help is needed most.
