Sunrise adults get fit

As part of their life skills and physical education programme, six female clients from the Sunrise Adult Training Centre in West Bay enjoyed a fun day outing at Curves last week

The trip to Curves Fitness Centre was to encourage clients to exercise, the importance of exercise in one’s life and that exercising was fun.

It was obvious from the smiling faces and happy laughter that this group was not only getting physically fit, but having a good time as well.

Sunrise director Roberta Gordon said, ‘We also wanted them to see what other ladies in the community were doing to get fit,’

‘We do a lot of physical exercises and life skills programmes at the centre, which involve physical development and maintaining good health.

‘There is also a vocational programme at the centre which gets clients familiarised with the community so they can go out and work like everyone else,’ said Ms Gordon.

Plans are also in the works for setting up a training programme with a proper gym at the centre.

‘We had some good donations from the public towards the gym project, but we are still involved in a number of fundraising events to raise the rest of the money for equipment.

‘We have already obtained a bike and we are going to be getting a tread mill, mats for stretching and a few other exercise machines,’ she said.

Deputy Director Bonnie Moxam said the programme at Curves had done a lot for them and when they approached personnel at the fitness centre with the idea of having the clients, they were only too happy to accommodate the group for one hour.

Curves, the women fitness centre is at the West Bay Strand.

Curves instructors Diane Corich and Robert Musselwhite instructed the group in the use of the gym machines.
