With the start of Hurricane season 2005 less than one month away an increasing number of businesses in Grand Cayman are making disaster preparedness plans reports Mike Edge, Manager of the Deloitte Disaster Recovery Centre at Citrus Grove.
With 12 (of 20) Recovery Suites at the DRC already leased Mr. Edge is anticipating subscription levels to be close to 100 per cent come 1September.
Charles Hall, CEO, HSBC Financial Services (Cayman) Limited, stated ‘business continuity planning is critical in our business, our clients and shareholders expect that, even in the event of an unforeseen disaster, we will continue to operate as normal. It is corporate policy across HSBC globally that all offices must now have a robust business continuity programme. Although HSBC Cayman’s offices suffered only minimal damage and no business interruption during ‘Ivan’, with Deloitte’s Disaster Recovery Centre at Citrus Grove and Brac Informatics data centre in Cayman Brac we now have an additional contingency arrangement in a secure and affordable solution right here in the Cayman Islands.’
In addition to HSBC, clients of the Disaster Recovery Centre include:
Goldman Sachs (Cayman) Trust Ltd
Admiral Administration
Maples and Calder
Barclays Private Bank and Trust (Cayman) Ltd
Cingular Wireless
Appleby Spurling Hunter
CUC
Quin and Hampson
Northview Services Ltd

‘The DRC offers affordable solutions for businesses of all sizes – starting from as little as US$200 per month for a 24/7 media storage facility. This range of solutions provides businesses with the opportunity to streamline their recovery procedures based in their individual needs,’ said Mr. Edge.
‘With the Ivan experience behind us many businesses now appreciate the value of having a local as well as remote back-up solution and are taking the necessary steps towards this.’ said Jeremy Smith, Senior Manager, Deloitte Enterprise Risk Services. ‘The DRC is the premier alternate business location and back-up site in Grand Cayman’ added Mr. Smith.
