Groundbreaking held for new sanctuary

An official groundbreaking ceremony was held on 22 May for the new sanctuary at Wesleyan Holiness Church in West Bay.

Hurricane Ivan dealt a heavy blow to the church’s sanctuary, which had to be demolished.

‘Many of the congregation of our church tearfully witnessed the disappearance of our beloved sanctuary that had served us so well for many years through worship services, weddings, baby dedications, funerals and concerts,’ said a press release from the church.

‘The reality of the total loss of our facilities gave a greater determination to rebuild. Our building may be gone but our congregation and church family remains faithful and still much intact.’

The release noted that while building a new sanctuary had been in the planning stages for years, the storm moved the project forward. Garfield Ebanks is the contractor.

Church pastor Rev. John F. Case thanked those in the congregation, together with many others, for donating to the building fund.

‘May God continue to bless each and every one of you,’ he said.
