Today’s Editorial October 7:Looking to the future

We want to publicly thank everyone who turned out at Business after Hours at Cayman Free Press Wednesday night.

By all accounts the event was a glowing success.

More than 400 people turned out to listen to words of kindness and encouragement and to mingle.

They were also treated to a showing of the presses printing Thursday’s newspaper and tours of the various departments.

It gave us a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

It would be great if every Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours event could attract so many people.

Our appreciation goes out to Wil Pineau and his staff at the Chamber for helping to make our event such a success.

What a great way to celebrate a 40th anniversary.

But even though the big party is over, our celebrations aren’t.

Yesterday, 6 October, was our official birthday.

Today we’re thanking our staff with a private party at a local establishment.

We wouldn’t be celebrating any anniversary without the dedicated and caring staff that keeps Cayman Free Press up and running.

In two weeks we’re going to take our celebration to the Sister Islands where we’ll have a chance to thank our loyal readers and advertisers on Little Cayman and Cayman Brac with activities planned on both islands.

It is our joy and pleasure to be able to share our success with the entire country.

With this milestone under our belts we look forward to the future.

The challenges and opportunities that are before us will be much different than those of the past 40 years.

This is mainly due to ever-changing technologies and how people receive their news.

We know we’ve got to learn more about the people we are targeting with our products and how to earn their loyalty.

As the country and world evolve, so must we.

While we are charting new territory as our knowledge grows and our methods evolve, we still must pressure and nurture the foundations of integrity and high quality journalism upon which Cayman Free Press was built.

And we will.

It’s a promise we make to you, our loyal readers and advertisers, and to ourselves.
