The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) has appointed a Women’s Committee to encourage the development of woman’s football at both district and national levels with female league fixtures.
This committee springs into action almost immediately, organising a girl’s Under-17 league that begins in January. Following on that the committee has its sights on the Caribbean U-17 tournament in Trinidad next July.
They have been focusing on football in its entirety, commented CIFA President Jeffrey Webb. He noted that CIFA’S introduction of this league opens the door for long term development of women’s football in the Cayman Islands and that they are working on building an infrastructure.
Chairman of the Committee is Al Bartice with Mike Barnett as his Deputy. Sophia Dilbert holds the post of Secretary. Other Committee Members include Sue Green, Cherrel Neblett, Lolita Hannah and Glen Goodison.
‘Formation of the League brings structure to women’s football in Cayman,’ Mr. Bartice said. He explained that the Committee is seeking to gain international recognition by organising games against teams of other countries.
Plans are in the making for holding a series of lectures with their focal point being female fitness, nutrition and physiology.
Also planned for the near future is a training course for coaches, referees and other club members involved in the women’s game.
