Youngsters are already gearing up for the start of the Queensgate Under 13 and Admiral Under 17 Youth Leagues which are both set for kick off next week on January 24th and 25th respectively. The leagues will run through May 2006 with games predominantly scheduled for 4:00 pm. on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s each week.
Ms. Cassandra Powell, Queensgate Bank and Trust Company Ltd’s Senior Manager Funds Fiduciary Services expressed her organization’s delight at a press conference earlier this week, in supporting CIFA’s youth development programs.
‘We have been a sponsor for several years now and are delighted once again to be a sponsor for the up coming season. We will continue to play a role in youth development in the Cayman Islands and look forward to a great season.’
CIFA Youth Committee Chairman Mark Scotland who was also present said that young footballers could look forward to more opportunities on the field in the near future. He noted that CIFA had deliberately changed the Under 14Lleague to an Under 13 League this year in an effort to reduce the gap between leagues and encourage the development of younger players.
Where there was only the Under 14 and Under 17 Leagues catering to Cayman’s youth previously, CIFA will add Under 11 and Under 15 leagues with in the next year. By the 2006-07 season there should therefore be Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 21 leagues.
‘In previous years players fell out of the sport between the Primary School and Under 14 leagues as most players were either too young, or too small to compete with the older age groups. With the introduction of these new leagues players will be accounted for from their primary years through to the senior level.’
National Technical Director, Marcos Tinoco stressed the importance of keeping the players growing over the next few months, ‘It is CIFA’s aim to fill the gaps and make a link between all the competitions…The leagues will run from January to May with a break for the World Cup then resume with summer camps, CIFA’s Annual Youth Football Festival and the Under 21 League.’
Teams participating in this season’s Queensgate Under 13 Youth League include Future SC, St. Ignatius Catholic High School, Academy SC, East End United, George Town Sports Club, Bodden Town FC and Scholars International.
