In the Social Division PWC ran out as Round Robin leaders closely followed by The Ancients, The Clydesdales and in last spot the Young Academy who despite some very brave and tenacious Rugby had only managed to win one match against the Clydesdales.
This led to the Social Division semi’s between PWC and the Clydesdales and the Ancients and the Young Academy. In the first match despite an early effort to take the lead from the Clydesdales, PWC came back to win 17 – 5. In the second semi the Young Academy, aged between 14 and 16 surprised the Ancients to run out winners by the biggest margin of the day 35 – 7.
The PWC-Young Academy final was played immediately prior to the Premier final and the young Academy used all of the knowledge gained during the days play to win 15 – 5 and take the plate. An excellent effort from the young Academy players.
In the Premier Division the round robin matches proved to be of a very high standard and the play very tough at the end of round Robin play Ama-Tsotsi led the table unbeaten and with eight points, The Cayman Academy were in second, The Southern Men in third, Don Fosters in fourth and the Butterfield Irish Wolfhounds went out finishing in fifth spot.
The semi’s therefore matched up Ama-Tsotsi against Don Fosters and the Cayman Academy Vs The Southern Men. In the first semi Ama-Tsotsi held on to beat Don Fosters 19 – 12 and the Cayman Academy beat The Southern Men 29 – 5 to advance to their first ever finals.
Ama – Tsotsi had already beaten the Cayman Academy in round robin play 15 – 0 and were expected to repeat this result in the finals. The Cayman Academy had however learned much from the days play and led from the start with Stuart McMillan crossing the line early in the first half. He was quickly followed by Captain Jonathan Doak. Venassio Toktokavanua sealed the win with the third try of the final just seconds before the end of the game to bring the final result to 21 – 5 for the Cayman Academy.
