Ash Wednesday football showdown set

The CIFA Digicel Cayman Cup which started seven weeks ago with fourteen competitors has been whittled down to the final two and only one can be the best.

After battling it out in the final leg of the semi-final rounds this past weekend George Town SC and Money Express will face off in the biggest showdown this season on Wednesday March 1st.

While Latinos FC lost to Money Express 2-1 on Saturday, George Town SC and FC International battled it out on Sunday ending with a 1-0 score line in favour of George Town. The two semi-final winners will now move on to the battle of the best at the Annex on Ash Wednesday.

Money Express has been riding high all season having lost none of the fourteen matches they’ve played thus far this season. George Town has not been as consistent and was handed a 1-0 defeat nine weeks ago when they met Money Express for the first time this season.

That result however, may be no predictor of the possible results come Ash Wednesday. There is definitely now more at stake including an iridescent golden cup and cash prizes. It is highly likely that George Town was just getting warmed up when they were met and beaten by Money Express on December 18th.

The match, which kicks off at 3pm, will be preceded by a CIFA Women’s League match between Scholars International and Latinas at 1:15 p.m.

Tickets will be $5.00 at the gate while children under 12 years old will get in free. Event sponsors Digicel will once again be giving away lots of free gifts including mobile phones.
