The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association’s Open Water season kicks off this weekend, with the 19th Annual Cable & Wireless 800 Meter sea swim being held Saturday, 11 March 2006. The race will start at 4:00pm at Governor’s Beach, and finishes at Public Beach on West Bay Road.
Having just completed a 10k fundraising swim, the Cayman Islands CARIFTA swim-team will find the 800m distance to be like a walk in the park. Challenging the CARIFTA team members for top honors will be the Masters group, which contains some very fast adult swimmers that have recently arrived on Island. Non-competitive swimmers will find the race an enjoyable excuse to enjoy a leisurely swim in some of the Caribbean’s finest waters.
Trophies will be awarded for the top three male and female finishers in all age categories. Regardless of finishing position, every swimmer gets a t-shirt, refreshments and pizza at the end of the race. Participants in the Cable & Wireless 800 Meter sea swim will be required to wear distinctive C&W swim-caps, which will be provided free upon registration, during the race.
Registration for the 19th Annual Cable & Wireless 800 Meter sea swim will be held in the Governor’s Beach parking area prior to the race, from 3:00 to 3:45pm. Entry fees for CIASA Members are CI$5 for children and CI$10 for adults, while non-members pay CI$10 for children and CI$15 for adults.
