Four remain in hospital

Four people remained in hospital on Monday – including a man who was airlifted to Miami – with serious injuries following a fatal car accident on Saturday.

Iliana De La Cruz of George Town, 18, died in the crash.

At about 7.45am, emergency services were called to the collision between a Honda Integra and a flat bed pick-up truck on Shamrock Road, near the Stingray Brewery.

Ms De La Cruz, who was Miss Teen Cayman 2004-05, had been a passenger in the Honda. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Miami where his condition was said to be critical, police said on Monday.

The 36-year-old driver of the pick-up suffered bruising and cuts, for which he received hospital treatment. His 48-year-old passenger was unhurt.

Two men, aged 22 and 34, who were in the back of the truck sustained serious injuries. The 22-year-old remained in critical care at the Cayman Islands Hospital. The 34-year-old had been moved from critical care and was said to be in recovery.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Boxwell on 926-6254.
