There was exciting softball action at the Field of Dreams last weekend with the first games kicking off the Cayman Islands Little League Spring Season.
In Tee Ball and the Subway against Final Touch game, Subway started off batting with Cory Burke and Nathan Borde scoring home runs to contribute to a total of 11 runs in the First Inning. In the outfield, Subway was struggling with a slow start and a few close calls and Final Touch took the lead by getting 12 runs in the inning with good batting. In the Second Inning Subway was equally impressive in batting, with Nate Meghoo hitting a grand slam. Subway worked hard in the outfield, with Ethan Hydes making a great on third base, resulting in the game ending in a tie. A good way for both teams to start the Season. Players and parents from both teams showed a lot of enthusiasm in an exciting first game for both teams.
In the Home Gas against Butterfield game the Home Gas ‘Green Machine’ posted its first win of the season 19-17 with outstanding fielding from Daniel Reid and home runs by Zion Coe and Kieran McLean. Great support from both sets of parents contributed to a thrilling game.
In the Digicel against RE/MAX game Digicel edged out their opponents in a closely fought game.
In the Red Sail Sports against CIBC game Redsail came to play with excellent fielding to take a commanding lead after the First Inning. CIBC bravely fought back with excellent fielding by the Pitcher/First Baseman combination of Eric Wilson and Mathew Rich to lead by one going into the bottom of the last innings. CIBC needed to bat perfectly and almost did but for the excellent play of Red Sail’s Pitcher that resulted in two outs and a win for Red Sail by one run.
