Become a Cayman VIP

I read your opinion in the 26 March, 2006, Cayman Compass and agree litter is bad for Cayman.

I have noticed that litter seems to accumulate at an alarming rate along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway and then every six to eight weeks a governmental team does the honours and clears the mess up for us all.

Who are these irresponsible twits who are doing this littering?

I think I found out the answer a few weeks ago.

I was travelling along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway one afternoon and a couple of vehicles in front of me was a rubbish container truck without a top cover over spewing out rubbish all along the highway.

It was absolutely shocking. I immediately phoned 911 and reported the driver to the authorities.

Based on the above experience, one could reasonably assume that the vast majority of the litter deposited, say, along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, is litter deposited by rubbish container trucks and may not be the public at large.

Perhaps to instil a sense of national pride, the Cayman Compass could possibly go one step further and organize the forming of say, the Cayman VIP’s.

These volunteers dressed in bright yellow Cayman VIP T-shirts, could meet at pre-arranged locations to clear up litter in problem areas.

Everybody is capable of not littering and maybe becoming a VIP (Volunteer Inciting Preservation).
