The public is invited to a free seminar, Coping with breast cancer and its complications, Saturday, 22 April at the Marriott Beach Resort, from 9am to 1pm.
The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is organising the seminar, along with the Cayman Islands Medical and Dental Society, the Health Services Authority and Kendal Regional Medical Center of Miami.
Dr. Sook Yin, CICS medical director, will be talking about the cancer society and its role in promoting screening for early detection of cancer in Cayman.
Dr. Yaron Rado, HSA radiologist, will look at the role of the mammography in the prevention of breast cancer.
In addition, a pharmacist from the HSA will discuss chemotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer.
Kendall will be sending a surgeon to talk about new concepts in breast cancer as well as two physical therapists who will discuss how to deal with lymphedema, the build-up of fluid, especially in the upper arms, due to breast cancer treatment.
Christine Sanders, general manager of the Cancer Society, is encouraging the public to attend and urges people to reserve a place due to the limited space available.
‘We’re really happy to collaborate with the Medical and Dental Society, the HSA and Kendall to bring such good quality of discussion of breast cancer awareness issues to the islands,’ she added.
For more information on the seminar or to make a reservation, contact Darlene Whitaker of the HSA at 244-2814 or Christine Sanders at 949-7618.
