The public is invited to attend this morning’s formal opening of Parliament for the 2006-07 session.
According to a release from Government Information Services, the first meeting of the new session will be opened by the Speaker, Mrs. Edna Moyle, on Friday, 28 April, at 9.40 am. Persons who wish to attend are therefore asked to be seated by 9.30am
After the opening, the House will rise to await the arrival of the Governor, Mr. Stuart Jack, and his wife. Persons outside the Legislative Assembly Building on Fort Street will have a chance to see Mr. Jack accept a salute from a Royal Cayman Islands Police Guard of Honour.
The Speaker will then accompany Mr. and Mrs. Jack inside.
At 10am the Governor will deliver the Throne Speech, his first since coming to Cayman in November 2005.
Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson will then deliver the Budget Address, with Government’s annual plan and estimates for the financial year 1 July 2006 – 30 June 2007.
The House is expected to adjourn debate on the two speeches until next Wednesday, 3 May.
Following that motion, Mr. Kurt Tibbetts, Leader of Government Business, will deliver a statement outlining Government’s key policies for the coming fiscal year.
The House will then adjourn until the following week.
