Man injured by machete

A 42-year-old man is in police custody following an incident which took place Monday at Watering Place Park in Cayman Brac.

At approximately 6.45pm the 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call from a member of the public reporting that a fight had occurred between two men at the public park.

Officers attended and found a 32-year-old man had sustained serious injuries from a machete used for cutting wood.

Police arrested the local man on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

The victim, another local man, is being treated in hospital where his condition is said to be serious.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw either party in the park prior to or after the incident should contact police on 948-0331 or Crime Stoppers on 800 TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and could be entitled to a cash reward.
