Digicel has announced the grant of share options to its employees.
The reward programme will benefit up to 2,000 staff across its existing network and involves the issuance of options for close to one million shares, a company release says.
The scheme is designed to thank employees for their contributions to Digicel’s growth and business success in the last five years and will impact on staff across the telecom’s 20 operations.
Digicel Group’s founder and chairman, Mr. Denis O’Brien, announced the share option plan to staff in Digicel’s flagship operation in Jamaica during a recent visit there, states a press release.
Digicel’s employee share plan is similar to the incentive programme introduced to staff at East Telecom, the operation which introduced competition in mobile telecommunications in Ireland.
The announcement was applauded by Jamaica’s Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Omar Davies.

In moves to further increase its Pan-Caribbean network Digicel news, the telecom and with an overall investment of more than US$1.2 billion in the region, Digicel is also planning to launch further new services such as its WiMAX wireless broadband technology.
