The Grand Cayman Marriott Resort is recruiting for high season and the job fair proved helpful in seeking out the right recruits.
‘Our goal is to fill up about 90 positions,’ explained Managing Director of the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort Chris Sariego.
‘We want to not only showcase what we have on offer at the hotel but to be able to communicate and expose what the industry has to offer,’ he said.
Positions in such areas as information technology, sales and marketing, public relations, reservations and engineering are careers of interest that people do not often associate with the hotel industry, he said.
Mr. Sariego said 35 people had called the hotel during the week seeking work and they were to visit the job fair Friday also.
The booths were fun, showcasing some hands-on work being done by employees, such as chefs in the culinary section.
Some of the other areas of interest being showcased were recreation, engineering, front desk, sales and marketing.
Coffee and treats were provided for visitors to the fair and of particular popularity was a chocolate fountain, complete with fruits for dipping into its flowing confectionery.
Other special guests who visited the job fair were Minister for Tourism Charles Clifford, Permanent Secretary with the Ministry of Tourism Gloria McField-Nixon, Permanent Secretary with the Ministry of Education Angela Martins, Chamber of Commerce CEO Wil Pineau and UCCI President Hassan Syed.
