Two men are dead in East End following a shooting and one man is in police custody.
At around 12.20am Thursday the 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call reporting gun shots being heard in East End.
Police and medics responded to the scene in Fiddler’s Lane, off Welcome Way, and found two men with injuries. One man, aged 36, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man, aged 48, was taken to hospital but died.
Police are not in a position to name the victims at this time. A 21-year-old man was arrested in East End in the early hours of this morning. He remains in police custody at this time.
‘This is an extremely serious incident that has taken place. We responded immediately and robustly with approximately 30 officers attending the location and working hard throughout the night to secure an early arrest,’ said Commissioner of Police Mr. Stuart Kernohan. ‘We have a dedicated team of detectives in place, led by a senior investigating officer who will carry out a full and thorough investigation to determine exactly what happened. These types of incidents are very rare and I am asking the public not to panic as this appears to be an isolated incident that occurred between individuals who are known to each other.’
Policing in the Eastern Districts is currently at its highest levels with all three (East End, Bodden Town and North Side) operating with more officers than ever before. Officers will be out in force over the next few days to assist with investigations and help reassure the public.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact George Town Police Station on 949-4222. People can also call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477. All persons calling crime stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.
