A shore-line fishing accident near Pedro Castle Monday afternoon killed one of three fishermen who apparently got swept into the sea by a large wave.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said 40-year-old Jesus Moral Imperial was found unconscious in the sea shortly after 4.30pm when a caller reported someone was having trouble in the water.
Police, medics and enforcer boats combined to help pull Mr. Imperial from the water and transport him to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
RCIPS said it appeared Mr. Imperial and two other men were fishing off the rocks near Pedro Castle south of Savannah when a wave washed all of them into the water.
Police spokesperson Deborah Denis said the other two were able to save themselves by clinging onto the rocks.
Mr. Imperial was originally from the Philippines, but was a Cayman Islands resident. RCIPS said it has sent condolences to his friends and family.
