First Triple Double of the FirstCaribbean Bank Women’s League

For those that don’t know what a triple double is, it’s an accolade that comes from extremely hard work on the basketball court and an accolade that few players have on their resume. It happens when a player earns double digit figures in 3 of any of the following statistics in a single game: Rebounds, Points, Steals, Blocks, Assists.

On Sunday January 28th, Mrs. Merta Day became the first woman in Cayman’s recorded history to reach this mark as her team, the Queensgate Flames, defeated Welly’s Cool Spot 57-47. Day finished with 11 rebounds, 12 steals and 13 points. Teammate Scimone Campbell also had an impressive game with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

For Welly’s: Cassianne Lawrence led with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 steals, just shy of a triple double, while teammate Krystle Barrett added 15 points and 4 rebounds.

For the Fever: Theresa Hamil led with 14 points and 3 rebounds while teammate Lauri Bodden finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Lavern Ebanks also finished well with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
