Record entry for Cross Island Relay

The rain eased shortly before the 6.00am start of the 33rd Cross Island Relay today (Sunday 4th February)

A record entry of 43 teams took part giving a race entry number of over 250 runners. Teams were drawn from corporations, clubs and groups of running friends. Ernst & Young, KPMG and UBS all entered multiple teams.

The cloudy and sometimes rainy conditions kept the temperatures cool for runners especially on legs 5 and 6 which are run between 9 and 10 am.

6 runners per team were each required to run a four mile leg over a course from Gun Bay, East End to the George Hicks High School Playing Field.

The overall winners were ‘ Beauty and the Beasts’ in a time of 2hrs 30.31 mins, Second were ‘Hy – Tech Tigers’ in 2hrs 40.56 mins and third were ‘’ in 2hrs 43.25 mins. The fastest ladies team were ‘Girl Power’ in 3hrs 26.13 mins.

Individual awards went to David Walker for the fasted male leg and Beth Schreader took the honors for the ladies.

After the race the participants enjoyed breakfast and an award ceremony.
