Native islander dead in NY

A 22-year-old man shot to death Sunday in the Stapleton area of Staten Island, New York was a native Caymanian.

According to published reports, Carlos Ebanks was sitting in a Jaguar with at least one other person when another car pulled up alongside. Police told the New York Times that the second car fired shots into the Jaguar.

Police said whoever was driving the Jaguar took the car to a local hospital, and then sped off. The vehicle was later found abandoned. Mr. Ebanks died from wounds sustained in the shooting.

Cayman Islands Department of Tourism officials, who maintain an office in New York City, confirmed Mr. Ebanks identity and that he was originally from Cayman. However, department spokesperson Jo Gammage said he had lived in New York for ‘most of his life.’
