Digicel wins fifth straight

The Digicel Chuggers improved to 5-0 on the season with a 22-9 pounding of Fortico on Sunday evening at the Field of Dreams.

‘Once again, it was big innings that made the difference,’ said Chuggers’ Coach Alan Markoff..

Trailing by 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Digicel erupted for nine runs, and then followed that big inning with seven more runs in the sixth inning.

Digicel has now scored five or more runs in an inning 11 times in their first five games.

The offensive heroes for the Chuggers were Neil Clements (3 for 4 with two home runs, 4 runs scored and 5 RBI) and Donnie House (4 for 4 with 4 runs score and 5 RBI).

‘I found my equilibrium,’ said Clements.

‘He found a 15 mph wind blowing out to left field,’ replied John Rhynold from afar.

Super sub Paul Njoka also went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and 3 RBI in his second game with the Chuggers.

Defensively, Mark Wallace had his best game of the year at third base.

‘There’s no shame in my game,’ said Wallace.

The Chuggers were without many of their starting players, who were either off the island, hurting from injuries or self-inflicted wounds, or sailing in the North Sound.

‘It’s amazing that we can bring in a rag-tag line-up and still earn an impressive victory,’ said Coach Markoff. ‘Fortico has some really good players but our nine-run outburst seemed to get them down.’

Markoff credited good communications as the key to victory.

‘We didn’t make any base running blunders this week, which was all because we communicated well – and so we should when we represent Digicel.’

After playing three games in eight days, the Chuggers now have eight days off before they take on AndroGroup next Monday.
