In addition to rough seas and bad weather, officers found there to be an unusual number of jellyfish in the area. Two cruise ship passengers were stung this morning by the jelly fish and had to be taken to shore by Protector to receive medical treatment.
Another tourist was also injured by a Sting Ray. The barb of the ray broke off in his arm and Typhoon had to transport him to shore for medical treatment. It is thought rough weather may have been a contributing factor to this incident taking place.
Under the Port Authority Law 1999, the RCIPS is allowed to issue instructions such as this to prevent injury and preserve life.
The Marine Unit will be patrolling the North Sound and the Sand Bar area to make sure the instructions are complied with.
