Bodden Town, the birth place of democracy.
What do we really want and where are we going?
For the public’s eyes this letter is mainly to ask why for more than 50 years we still remain the town that time forgot. So many politicians have come up with ideas to assist and encourage but not one has put money where their mouth is.
There have been promises for roads, parks, street lights, craft and food outlets, supermarkets, malls and hardware stores. No one has the opportunity to own anything in this district except those persons who have money and more money.
These business persons will not even help by giving anyone in the district a job, the persons from the district who are offered a job are either drug or alcohol addicts. Why?
It is only because they are expecting them to fail, then the businessman can have a good excuse for saying no one from the district wants to work.
Otherwise persons employed here are expatriates. Caymanians are just not given a chance and it is a crying shame what we are doing to our people.
Everyone who has had a vision has done absolutely nothing but talk and I think it’s about time they put money where their mouth is.
Bodden Town district needs some recognition from our politicians; we are sick of promises.
I will say this, that although some persons who are against Mr. Charles Clifford effort to start something for the Go East direction, I am for it. My reason is because I see him wanting to try something.
Now if he does not follow through with his promises, he will be thought of as being the same as the other promise-ramas that we have known in the past.
I don’t care where Mr. Clifford has a plan to put a mall in the district so long that it is done. Although persons have hollered and rolled over about the post office in Savannah, it is still going ahead. Hip, hip hooray for Mr. Arden McLean; I am only sorry we did not have an Arden in every district.
In this district we have prominent business persons who have paid half moneys on hurricane derelict buildings, leaving them in eye-sore states in the district.
I would suggest those in authority put more attention on this district and what is quietly taking place here.
Bodden Town has a lot of historic value here, especially in our older folks, story telling about back then. Are we interested in them? Can’t we have something or somewhere that they can meet at least twice a month to hear their stories?
It is good for them instead of just letting them stay at home day after just waiting on time to die. We are not doing enough, and those persons who would be willing to help are not being encouraged by those who can make things happen in this district.
How many people from Bodden Town are employed at Pedro St. James Castle?
How many people from Bodden Town are employed at the new shopping village?
How many people from Bodden Town are employed at the Mission House?
How many people from Bodden Town are employed at the gas stations, mini food marts, restaurants and I could go on and on about the district of Bodden Town.
There is no children’s park, there is no supermarket, there is no place to cash your cheque, no hardware, no licence department, no tourist information centre, no fish market, no meat market and no place to hold heritage day activities except having a road block.
We have a lot of middle aged and older folks, a lot of young people with a lot of wasted time on their hands. I love talking about the needs of my district and only wish that one day we will find the right persons who are not only full of promises before election time.
